Today's the Day: Blog

Personal Trainers

Posted: Friday, March 13th, 2009

I apologize in advance for this blog and I hope not to offend anyone in the fitness industry.

Today's segment focused on finding the right personal trainer with emphasis placed on their education and certification. Lorne Goldenberg, the founder and owner of the Athletic Conditioning Center and a trainer for a variety of professional and elite amateur athletes, gave us some advice on what people should be looking for or shopping for when finding a trainer.

Essentially Lorne stressed the importance of an education and proper certification and when I researched a variety of websites, those two factors were key. Many trainers don't have the proper certification, or rely on their "personality" or "energy" to motivate their clients. Lorne's concern is that often, people get injured or are doing exercises that are not appropriate to their fitness level and goals.

Personal trainers either work in health and fitness centres or they work privately, visiting their clients at home or the office. As you can see, it's not hard to find a personal trainer, but knowing what to look for in a personal trainer can be a bit more challenging. Before you hire one to help you reach your fitness goals, make sure the personal trainer you're interested in can pass the test before they try to push you to your limits.

The following articles break down some of the things you should consider:

Just something to think about so that you aren't wasting your money and your energy and most of all that you aren’t putting yourself in the position of potentially getting injured. Other than that, enjoy your workout!
