Buying Tickets

Posted: Friday, February 6th, 2009

Hey Gang;

I hope those of you who were looking to buy tickets to see Elton John and Billy Joel were successful…I had an interesting on-line experience while I tried to buy some stubs.

I decided the best route to go would be through CapitalTickets.ca…I thought I would be able to handle the idea of getting on the internet and securing a couple of duckets.  When I first when to the site, I was told I would have to wait to even get on the site, because there were so many people trying to get on there.  One of our producers, Melissa Rose, was also trying to get on-line for me…she was also yelling out instruction the entire time, as we both tried our luck at the internet and the phone lines…seems we had to wait forever.

So the screen refreshed a couple of hundred times before I finally got into the site…a few more clicks of the mouse, and I was ready to pick my seats.  Sadly, it was about 10:25 by this point…the seats available had obviously dwindled quite substantially.

My first choice were the tickets for $125.00 each…once all the fees and taxes and all that were added up, the grand total was $293 and change…okay, I can live with that, I thought…then I checked out just where those seats were located in Scotiabank place…put it this way, I would get a really good look at both Elton and Billy…if they left the stage and went toward the building about 30 meters, and then took the elevator to the third level of the building.  In other words, I’d spend about 300 bones just to hear the two pop icons…not necessarily see them.

So, that being the case, I decided to increase the price point, and go for the most expensive choice…$225 per ticket.  After declining the “I wont be able to see them” seats, I had to refresh, re-enter, and re-dedicate myself to the ticket purchase.  After several more minutes of mouse clicking, I had excellent seats in the 100 level…but then I looked at the final total…its was just under $500!!!!  Now I’m not cheap, but that’s just a little ridiculous.  That’s nearly half a trip to the Dominican (as Karen Soloman quickly pointed out)…that’s almost as much as a golf trip to the Carolina’s…in my opinion, thats way too much money to pay to see Sir Elton and Billy Boy in concert…think of the CD’s I could buy…oh, I mean the songs I could buy on itunes and download them…

Needless to say, unless the ticket fairy stops by with some free stubs, I’ll be reading about the concert on the morning of June 2nd…for those of you who decided that the concert was a good investment, I hope you enjoy the show.

I still have my copies of “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirty Cowboy” and “Glass Houses” to enjoy…if I close my eyes, I can imagine seeing Mr. John and Mr. Joel on stage…and then I’ll adjust my seat, since my wallets still full.

 Cheers to you

Kurt
