Littering!

Excuse me while I stand on my little soap box now...but I have to comment on littering. It's disgusting. Are there not enough garbage cans around? Am I missing something here?
The reason I bring this up is that every day I drive home there are coffee cups on my road. I've even seen sets of tires in the ditch. Vacuum cleaners dumped at the side of the road, a huge tarp deposited along the ditch. I get more infuriated when I see beer cans and liquor bottles because you know why those were thrown out of the car. My producer recently told me she had an armchair dumped in her neighbourhood. The effort was made to haul it into a truck for the sake of dumping it on the street?
Is there no reason why that empty coffee cup can't sit on the floor of the vehicle until you get home? Most can be recycled. And there is something called a dump for bigger refuse, charities will pick up gently used furniture and larger items, the City of Ottawa's website is a wealth of information for trash collection, and car tires I'm sure can be properly disposed of - one quick online searched spat out a number of websites and companies to call for information. That too is included on the city's website www.ottawa.ca.
