We Remember

Posted: Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Canada's military has an incredible history and today we take the time to remember those who fought for our freedom.  The ultimate sacrifice paid by men and women so I can sit and write here at my computer without fear.  There are so many stories to be told - and there are plenty - that I feel I could learn more, read more about both World Wars and other conflicts Canadians have been involved in.  It's a never ending story.

My late uncle served in the Navy in the Second World War.  He passed away long before I had an opportunity to sit down with him and hear his stories.  My mom was quite young when he returned and she remembers celebrating his homecoming with what was a treat in those days - candy raspberry drops.  Imagine that.  Times were tough with the end of the Depression and then the war, so luxuries were few.

Today we have the luxury of rights, freedom, and democracy.  Take time to remember that.
