Volunteering

Posted: Monday, October 27th, 2008

I hope you had a tremendous weekend and are looking forward to a spectacular week! (or Spooktacular).  Yes Halloween is almost here - can you believe it?  Another year gone by and another year where I'm in costume panic mode.  Don't worry though, come Friday we'll be ready.  Angie helped us out this morning with a visit to Audrey's Costume Castle.

I had the honour once again to present a Community Builder Award over the weekend.  I co-chair volunteer recognition with the United Way Campaign Cabinet.  I presented the award to Sylvia Manion on Sunday, who despite being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the 70's has given back to the community in so many ways.  She truly is a community champion.  If you know someone who deserves recognition for all the work they do you can make a nomination.  Just check out the United Way website at www.unitedwayottawa.ca.  And as of today we're at 46.1% of the $31,000,000 million dollar campaign goal.  We can do it Ottawa!

One thing Sylvia mentioned in her surprise acceptance speech is the need for more volunteers in so many areas.  It doesn't take much time, effort or money to do.  Even an hour a week doing something you enjoy or something you feel passionate about can make a difference.  It also makes you feel good - trust me on that one.

Make it a marvelous Monday.

Cheers,
Karen
